WA Driver Licence shows as Unverified

 What is a licence block?

Western Australia allows licence holders to place a block on their driver's licence or learner's permit through the Department of Transport's DoTDirect portal. People typically do this when:

• Their details have been compromised in a data breach
• They have experienced identity fraud
• Their licence card has been lost or stolen
• They are concerned about the security of their licence information

easyAML verifies WA licences through the Australian Government's Document Verification Service (DVS), which matches the licence details against the WA Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure's records.

While a block is in place, all DVS verification attempts are automatically declined regardless of whether the licence details are correct. The licence itself remains valid, and the block does not affect the holder's authority to drive. It only prevents the licence being used for electronic identity verification.

Ask the customer to either:

1. Temporarily lift the block in DoTDirect, go to the Driver's licence page > Protect your identity > Remove licence block. Once verification is complete, they can re-add the block the same way.
2. Provide an alternative identity document such as an Australian passport, which is unaffected by a licence block.

• A block only applies to WA driver's licences and learner's permits - not WA Photo Cards or Extraordinary licences.
• If the customer has recently replaced their licence card, check they've provided the current card number (printed on the back of the card). The card number changes with every new card, and both numbers are required to pass a DVS check.
