For a conveyancing firm, which AUSTRAC industry type should be selected?
Select Business and Professional Services as the main category, Conveyancing Services as the sub-selection, and tick Table 6 item 1 designated services for real estate transactions.
Select the following in the AUSTRAC enrolment form:
- Main category: Business and Professional Services.
- Sub-selection: Conveyancing Services (listed under "Other Designated Services").
- Designated services provided: Tick the items under Table 6, item 1 - assisting in the planning or execution of a transaction to sell, buy or transfer real estate. Tick further items if you also provide trust structuring, company incorporation, or other Table 6 services.
- Remittance Services: No (unless your firm separately operates a money-remittance business, which most conveyancers don't).
- Virtual Assistant Service / Registrable Remittance Service: No.
- Offshore activity: No unless you have an overseas branch.
If your conveyancing firm is part of a wider legal practice that also handles legal-services designated activities (estate planning, trust structuring), tick those Table 6 items as well - the form supports multiple service selections.
If you have a Reporting Group structure (multiple offices, a lead entity), enrol the lead entity first; member entities can be added subsequently under the same enrolment.
See AUSTRAC's Professional designated services and Enrol and register with AUSTRAC pages.
