How to scan a NSW Digital Driver Licence

If you want to use a NSW Digital Driver Licence (DDL) for your identity verification, the steps below will help. The NSW Digital Driver Licence is currently the only digital licence accepted - physical licences from all states are captured normally.

You will need:

• The Service NSW app installed on your phone with your Digital Driver Licence accessible
• A second, trusted mobile phone (e.g. a family member's or friend's) that is a recent model with a camera - see Is my device compatible?

Steps

• Forward the verification SMS to the second, trusted phone.
• On your own phone, open the Service NSW app, select your driver licence, tap the dots in the top right corner and choose Sign in to a venue - this opens a QR code scanner.
• On the second phone, open the verification link from the SMS and select the NSW Digital Drivers Licence document type. A QR code will display.
• Use your own phone (with the licence) to scan the QR code showing on the second phone.
• Complete the rest of the verification on the second phone, including the selfie capture if required.
  
  

  Why is my clients NSW DDL ID image missing?

  This is the normal result, not an error - and the verification is complete and valid. A NSW DDL arrives via a secure data payload direct from the NSW Government (name, date of birth, licence number, expiry and photo) but doesn't include a digital image copy of the physical licence - which is why the Document Capture field appears empty. The identity data has been confirmed at source, a stronger check than an image capture.
