Why does the temporary password not work when I copy-paste it?
Copy-pasting can add a leading blank space; type the password manually character by character, or use Forgot Password to issue a fresh temporary password if manual entry also fails.
Overview
Known issue: copy-pasting a temporary password can add a leading blank space, causing an "invalid password" error on submission. The fix is to re-enter it manually with no leading space - type it character-by-character rather than pasting. Temporary passwords use a dictionary-word format (e.g. "purple-mango-tractor") precisely so they're quick to type without errors.
Format and expiry
The password itself isn't time-limited, but the forgot-password reset link that generates it does expire, typically within hours. If you follow the link after it expires, request a new reset.
If manual entry also fails
- Use Forgot Password to issue a fresh temporary password - a fresh issue sometimes resolves intermittent problems with the original.
- Watch for whitespace or mobile auto-correct on the original (a trailing space, or a word auto-capitalised, e.g. "tractor" → "Tractor").
- Check the email source - some email clients add invisible formatting characters around the text. Sending the password to yourself via a plain-text channel can help.
- Contact support if multiple attempts fail - support can issue a known-good password and verify it works.
The product team is aware of the leading-space issue and a fix is coming; in the meantime the manual-entry workaround is reliable.
