Why is the entity name displayed on documents different from what the firm uses day-to-day?

Overview
easyAML pulls the legal entity name from the ABN lookup, and that legal name appears by default throughout the AML/CTF Program, training certificates, audit reports and AUSTRAC submissions - regulatory traceability requires the legal name on some of those documents. So the name you see on compliance documents can differ from the name you trade under day-to-day.
Common reasons for the mismatch
- The firm trades under a business name different from the legal entity (e.g. "Smith & Co Real Estate" trades as "SmithCo").
- A recent rebrand that hasn't been formalised at the ABN level - day-to-day branding has changed but the trading name hasn't been re-registered.
- The legal name has genuinely changed (partnership restructure, registered name change) - the platform's stored name needs updating.
Setting a trading name for display
For customer-facing and operational display, set up a trading name in Account Settings → Business Profile. Once configured, the trading name appears on training certificates, internal dashboards and user-facing labels, marketing materials and white-labelled flows (Professional/Enterprise tiers), and the SMS Sender ID and customer-facing branding (subject to Sender ID registration under ACMA's rules). The legal name still anchors the regulatory record - so a long partnership name remains on the compliance documents, while users see the registered trading name everywhere else.
If the legal name has actually changed
Update the source data. The platform re-syncs from ABN/ASIC data and the new legal name flows through. See AUSTRAC's Enrol and register with AUSTRAC for the regulatory naming requirements.
